Exponents

Kia Ora

We are learning to understand E (Exponents) to help us use BEDMAS.

For this week’s maths we had  to learn about exponents. We had to learn about exponents this week because for this term we are learning about BEDMAS. Exponents ties up with BEDMAS because it is one of the ways you can help solve BEDMAS. Exponents is very hard but once you get the hang of it or just learning the easier ways to solve it, It would be very easy. It is still challenging learning about exponents because if the seven is to the power of two its is not 7 x 2 but instead it is 7 x 7 which makes the questions and answers very hard.  Exponents can also be in many ways because exponents can be in the negatives as well. For eg…  the number can be -9 to the power of 3 which makes it very harder because even for me I don’t know how to answer those types of questions.

Have you ever learned about exponents?

Prefixes

Kia Ora

We are learning to find out prefixes that start with Con- or Co-.

For this Canva DLO I had the choice to choose between Idioms or Prefixes. I started with idioms then did the prefixes. I chose the prefixes last because the prefixes are always harder and especially the fact that we have to first find words then secondly have to find the meaning of that word. I liked this work because I had to research half of the words and also I learned many new words and the meaning that came with it. Also this work was interesting because when each prefix pops up I learn that word and also learn many other new words due to the research.

Do you know any prefixes that start with Con- or Co-?

Suffixes

Kia Ora

We are learning to find out suffixes that end with -ian/-or

For this Canva DLO I had to do the weekly choice board where I had to pick to list and define or match and define. I picked the list and define because I needed to know more words that end with -ian or -or That only thing that made this Canva DLO fun was that the words that you list have to do something with people. What I mean by that is you have to list words that have to do something with people eg. Doctor, Historian, and many other words. I liked doing this work because I got to learn many new words that include people. I learned so many new words such as ambassador,Historian and lastly politician.

Do you know any suffixes that end -ian/-or

Long Multiplication

Kia Ora

We are learning to try and figure out the easiest way to solve long multiplication.

For this DLO I had to work on Canva because I had just finished a workshop based on long multiplication and how to solve it by rounding to one hundred. Why I picked to do the long multiplication workshop was just because I never really understood how to solve big numbers so when I learned how I can solve these problem by just rounding to one hundred. Why I liked doing this DLO was because I got to still learn about long multiplication even after doing the workshop. The other thing also is that there are many people out there that are having challenges with their long multiplication so me doing this DLO can help many people figure out the easiest way to solve long multiplication.

Do you know another way of solving long multiplication?

Encouraging Idioms

We are learning to use idioms in a positive and thoughtful way. For this poster I had to do a poster which was based on idioms that I have learned in the past that are either encouraging or thoughtful. Why I liked creating this poster was because these idioms were actually very encouraging. I don’t know if I will use it in real life but if I did I think that these will be one of the most helpful and different ways to encourage someone. These idioms are not only a very good way to encourage someone but also the fact that instead of saying “good job” these idioms will make you sound very confident, encouraging and lastly thoughtful. These idioms will make you sound very smarter because it is not your average way of saying a good job but people will know that you are being very thoughtful with your words.

What idioms do you use?
